US: Current Weather

Looks like the entire US is having hot weather today. Right now it's 74 degrees with a slight south east wind that's bringing in a little bit of precipitation right now.  The clouds are looking a little whispy so I'm hoping the wind will change to just a straight S wind and the rain will stop. Humidity is at 48%

4/11

Snowing like crazy on my way to class this morning! And the chippewa river is hella over flowing; the water has drown the walking path by the river.

It stopped snowing, winds are still coming from the ENE at about 14mph today.  All stratus cloud cover. It's 32 degrees, just above dew point, Barometric pressure is lowering... We're going to get more snow, it's just gonna happen.

And make sure you wear your boots because NO ONE is going to be shoveling in April!Overlay

4/10

It snowed last night night, wind is coming from the ENE at 10mph and it's cloudy.  It's 36 degrees, dew point is also 36.... so pretty much that means the snow is going to start up again:(
Yup sure enough... Plenty of snow coming our way...
And here below us there is going to be severe thunderstorms.  Just crazy un-wanted weather going everywhere.

4/9

Had snow on friday! It rained a little saturday night.  Now today it's raining, we have winds at 15 mph coming from the NE.  It's 39 degrees and dew point is at 36 degrees.

Yeah so we have those low cold front bumping up all this "fun" weather our way.  My prediction is we are going to have a week of hell with plenty of precipitation and cold.

4/03 & 4/04

Yesterday was 40 degrees, sunny but very windy. Last night I had to measure temperature around campus and just that light 4mph wind made it feel extra cold.  Last night I noticed a lot of changes in wind direction.
It's 44 degrees and partly sunny.  Looks like the clouds are more like "mares tails." This means a change in wind direction which is NW at 12mph.

Looks like this cold front isn't going to be leaving us alone for a while:( ugh!

4/1

It snowed yesterday, so I was correct about the continuing precipitation.

Right now it's sunny, 27 degrees, few cumulus clouds.  Wind direction is NW at 15mph, so it feels more like 18 degrees.  Dew point is 11.5 degrees, barometric pressure is slowly rising, and Low pressure cells dont seem to be coming our way.

Sunday, March 31, 2013

it 31 degrees the wind has changed to north west at 17 mph. hopefully no new rain. the dew point is 11.5.
the low is out of our way. hopefully leading to no precip. it was windy today bringing in the coldfront from the low pressure.

saturday 3/30

It rained and it's still sprinkling a little.  I had predicted snow... I kinda forgot that rain existed because winter has gone on for so long!
It's 39 degrees right now, the wind is West at 7mph. It's foggy, with nimbostratus clouds.
Looks like the low has a little while before it gets out of the way. So more precipitation to come???
I guess we'll see tomorrow!

3/28

The sky is clear for the most part, there are some whispy Cirrus Fibratus looking clouds.  This shows a change in wind direction. Wind was just coming from the east the last time I checked but they are now coming from the south at just 1mph.  They are expected to come more from the South West later on.  This morning the tempurature was 18 degrees, just 6 degrees away from the dew point!
If that low continues to come in our direction, I'm thinking snow for the weekend!

3/27/13

It's a beautiful day in Wisconsin!!!!! It's sunny, 40 degrees, with just a few clouds, looking like cumulus but not tall enough vertically to be a sign of bad weather.  Wind is coming from the NW at 4 mph, humidity is 44%, dew point at 13.5 degrees, really no sign of precipitation to come for a while.

There still is quite a bit of snow on the ground.  All this warmth made for some good packy snow so of course me and the roommates had to build a snow sculpture in the awesome weather!

Tuesday 3/26

Currently it's 24 degrees and overcast.  There is a slight wind from the NW and the Barometric pressure is rising slowly so I wouldn't say there will be any precipitaion today.  The humidity is at 73% and dewpoint is 19.2 degrees.
You can see that there isnt a low pressure cell coming our way today,  the weather conditions should stay pretty stable.

3/25/13

I just got back from California hoping Wisconsin would have some sort of spring weather.

Well at least it's not below freezing right now...
It's 32 degrees and mostly cloudy, all cumulis clouds but they are wider than they are tall so I wouldnt expect them to bring any precipitaion soon, especially because we have a north wind at 9mph.

The sun is coming out more and more as the day goes on, it may cause for a cold night but the same type of day tomorrow.

The high pressure here shows that weather will remain steady

Thursday, March 14, 2013

3/14/13

It's 24 degrees and overcast right now. We had some snow this morning while the wind was coming from the SE.  Looks like the winds are going to be changing more westerly so we won't have snow for the rest of the day.  The wind is coming at 8mph, humidity is at 70%.

I'm just hoping that we get out all the rest of the snow for the year while I'm in California so I can come back and not worry about shoveling or getting my car out of my driveway!

ANYWAY, looks like the low pressure cell is coming our way.  Snow Later? we'll see

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

Right Now it is sunny, no clouds and winds are coming from the NW at 11mph.  Judging by that I foresee no snow or any sort of precipitation.

It's 29 degrees right now with 33% humidity.

US: Current Weather

High pressure cells all over the US making weather not too exciting.  Winds are's to crazy either, looks like a very calm day when it comes to weather.

3/5/13

Morning Snow!!! A little over 5 inches and it's still going.
It's been overcast all day, Wind is coming from the north at 10mph which is a switch up meaning the snowing will stop?!

Anyway, it's 27 degrees and 22 degrees dew point with humidity at 77%.

Current GOES-East Eastern US water vapor image
Here's a map showing water vapor, As you can see there is a lot more in the South where the storms have been, it is also too cold here for there to be that much water vapor in WI.

This map is from http://www.intellicast.com/National/Wind/JetStream.aspx. Shows those crazy fast jet streams where the storms are.

From the same site you can see the difference in Jet Streams compared to Wind.

Not to much snow around here as you can see below. This map is from http://weather.unisys.com/surface/sfc_map.php?inv=0&t=cur&region=mw.

Map of severe weather in South

Here's the new map of the severe weather in the southern part of the country.

Monday Threat

Monday 2/11/13

Yeterday was nuts.  It was raining when I woke up and had to scrape ice off my car.  Later it snowed .5" and a few hours after that it was raining again.  The roads were really slushy and it left some difficult walking conditions to school this morning.  The sidewalks are all hard slush and ice, thank God for snow boots.

Right now we have a WNW wind at 16mph.  Humidity is at 63% and dew point is 18 degrees.  It's cloudy and 27 degrees but it did get up to 36 degrees around lunch time today. We should have a little more sun tomorrow with temperatures around 30.  No snow in our near future.

We still have quite a bit of severe weather going on around the US.

US: Severe Weather Alerts

Lots of rain and flooding in the South and is continuing to move on to the East.

The Blizzard Nemo had caused people to abandon their cars, It caused massive power outages, and a huge amount of damage has been done.  From the Huffington Post: "Blowing with hurricane-force winds of more than 80 mph in places, the storm hit hard along the heavily populated Interstate 95 corridor between New York City and Maine. Milford., Conn., got 38 inches of snow, and Portland, Maine, recorded 31.9, shattering a 1979 record. Several communities in New York and across New England got more than 2 feet."

2/7/213

Too much homework to make it outside for too long yesterday.  Walking to class around 1 was pretty snowy.  We got .07" snowfall yesterday.  Our high was 26 degrees and had an easterly wind at 10mph. SSDD (same stuff different day) pretty much sums up the entire week.

TODAY:

right now we have wind at 11mph NNE, it's 29 degrees, and humidity is 70%.

US: Severe Weather Alerts

Snow tonight, as you can see there is a winter weather alert around WI.

Cloudy snowy day today but tomorrow it'll be sunny with no snow!  But still around the same temp.

Currently it is 26 degrees but feels like 15.

Wind is coming from the NW at 11 mph. 77% humidity.

It's been very cloudy today but the sun should start to peak out a little bit more asthe day goes on.

Looks like we'll be getting some snow within the next 48 hours.  It's guessed that we'll be hit tomorrow around 2pm with snow showers.

Monday 2/4/2013

We had a chilly but sunny weekend with no snow. I'm sure no one spent too much time outside anyway because of the Superbowl last night.

Today we had a high of 13 degrees, there isn't too much wind so I'm pretty happy.  Snow is predicted for tonight around 11pm.  That's just about as interesting as today's weather gets.

Thursday 1/31/2013

Getting the motivation to walk to class today was incredibly difficult because of the cold and wind.  It is currently 2 degrees, but feels like -18. Humidity is at 84% and winds are WNW at 18mph, averaging about 20mph for the day. We are expected to reach a high of 9 around 1pm and have some snow by 2pm.  I also suggest you skip the bar hopping tonight! We have a chill advisory starting at 6pm until tomorrow at noon.  Tempuratures will reach negative numbers, -13 is the excpected low but is said to feel like -27.

This Map shows the jet
streams today in the midwest.

I noticed this morning that there was a little bit of snow on the cars. The picture below shows the estimated precipitation, we ended up getting .07" of percipitation yesterday and we are expected to only get about a half inch today.

Overall, this entire week has been crazy as far as weather.  Monday night it rained resulting in ridiculously Icy sidewalks.  It was so bad, UWEC had cancelled class until 9:30am, which I didn't know until I had showed up for my 8am. Tuesday we reached a high of 35 and just a week before that we were in the negatives all day. Gotta love Wisconsin winters.
